We want to engage with dentistry professionals to share where genomics is making a difference to dental practice.
There are currently few other training resources aimed at dentistry professionals about genomic medicine, so we have worked with the North West Dental Education team at NHS England, to identify relevant topics and then run a joint webinar, a recording of which is available to view below.
The learning objectives for this webinar are:
- To appreciate some of the ways in which DNA testing is being used across the NHS, and how advances in technology are allowing greater integration of DNA analysis, into mainstream care.
- To understand that Clinical Geneticists support families affected by genetic conditions, which includes identifying DNA variants that influence craniofacial development.
- To have a general understanding of pharmacogenomics, discussing both general and dentistry-specific examples to illustrate how response to medicines and their therapeutic effect may be influenced by genetic variation.
We would really value your feedback on our first webinar for dentistry professionals, as we hope to run further training so please complete our survey here, which should take less than a minute and share with us what topics you would like to know more about!.
We are also working with the Dental Schools in the region to try to integrate more genomics content into the curriculum of their dental courses. This will help to prepare the next generation of dentistry professionals to use genomic medicine effectively in their practice.
We would like to signpost dentistry professionals to further training on genomics from the NHS Genomics Education Programme. One of the best place to start your genomics learning journey is from the curated collection of resources: https://www.genomicseducation.hee.nhs.uk/education/chart-your-genomics-learning-journey/.
Divided into different categories, the collection offers healthcare professionals a selection of courses, resources, animations and films that they can choose from depending on their learning stage.
We would really value your feedback as this will inform education and training materials moving forward. Please complete our 60 second feedback form here.
This page will be updated with relevant education and training materials but also visit other pages within our education and training resources section.
